Conditions we help with

Women's health, looked at properly

We look at your hormones alongside the thyroid, blood sugar, gut, nutrients and stress that shape them. We work alongside your GP and specialists, never instead of them.

Midlife

Perimenopause and menopause

Perimenopause can start in your early 40s, sometimes earlier, and symptoms often begin years before periods stop.

Perimenopause

The years when hormones fluctuate before periods stop. Symptoms can be confusing because they come and go, and periods may still be regular.

Common signs

  • Anxiety, low mood or irritability
  • Poor sleep and night sweats
  • Brain fog and forgetfulness
  • Heavier or changing periods

Menopause & beyond

After periods stop, lower oestrogen affects the brain, bones, heart, skin and pelvic health. Nutrition, strength and sleep matter more than ever.

Common signs

  • Hot flushes and night sweats
  • Joint aches
  • Vaginal dryness and urinary symptoms
  • Weight gain around the middle

Any bleeding after the menopause should be checked by your GP promptly.

HRT, and what else helps

HRT is prescribed by your GP or a menopause specialist. We don't prescribe it, but we can support the factors that affect how you feel, with or without HRT.

Common signs

  • Blood sugar and weight
  • Gut and hormone clearance
  • Thyroid and iron
  • Stress and sleep

Cycles

Periods, PMS and PCOS

Your cycle is a monthly report on your health. Painful, heavy or irregular periods, and PMS that takes over, are worth looking into.

PMS & PMDD

Mood, energy and physical symptoms that build before a period. In PMDD, mood changes can be severe.

Common signs

  • Irritability and low mood
  • Bloating and breast tenderness
  • Cravings and fatigue
  • Feeling like a different person each month

If low mood includes thoughts of harming yourself, call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time, or 999 in an emergency.

PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome affects around 1 in 10 women. Insulin resistance often plays a central role, which makes nutrition and lifestyle powerful tools.

Common signs

  • Irregular or absent periods
  • Acne and unwanted hair growth
  • Weight gain and cravings
  • Difficulty conceiving

Heavy or painful periods

Heavy or very painful periods are common, but not normal. Conditions such as endometriosis and fibroids need medical diagnosis.

Common signs

  • Flooding or changing protection hourly
  • Pain that stops you doing things
  • Tiredness from blood loss
  • Pain during sex

Bleeding between periods or after sex should be checked by your GP promptly.

Whole-body

When it's more than hormones

Many "hormonal" symptoms are driven or worsened by the thyroid, iron, blood sugar, gut health and stress.

Thyroid & fatigue

Thyroid problems are 5 to 10 times more common in women, and their symptoms overlap with perimenopause.

Common signs

  • Exhaustion
  • Feeling cold
  • Weight gain
  • Hair thinning

Low iron

Heavy periods, pregnancy and diet can all drain iron, leaving you tired, breathless and foggy, sometimes before anaemia shows on a blood test.

Common signs

  • Tiredness and breathlessness
  • Hair shedding
  • Restless legs
  • Poor concentration

Gut & hormones

The gut helps clear used oestrogen. Gut problems can affect hormone balance, and hormones affect the gut.

Common signs

  • Bloating that changes with your cycle
  • Constipation
  • Food reactions
  • Skin flares

Bloating most days for three weeks or more should be checked by your GP.
